After a UFC fighter reaches four consecutive losses, majority of the time a release is to follow.Dan Hardy fit that pattern and saved his career with a pair of wins last year. Now, the British welterweight is looking to scale back on his MMA career with no clear reason as to why."Martial arts for me has always been a tool to understand myself a little more and it's getting to the stage where it's run its course now," said Hardy to MMA Junkie. "The structure the sport has taken on is taking away from that for me, and I think I'm best served to be somewhere else in the future."
Hardy declined to elaborate on his reasons for looking to leave and said he'll do so when he's closer to retirement. He did not have a time frame for when that might occur.
Last year, Hardy stopped Duane Ludwig at UFC 146 in round one to earn Knockout of the Night and then took a decision over Amir Sadollah at UFC on FUEL TV.
"I'm ready for a new challenge, I'll be honest," said Hardy. "There are a lot of things about this sport that I love, and a lot of things about this sport that I don't like at all."
Hardy vs. Matt Brown has been announced for UFC on FOX 7. The card comes from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA on April 20.
