Brian Stann grew up idolizing Wanderlei Silva. Saturday night, he got the opportunity to test his skills vs. the former PRIDE champion, and it wasn't a good end result.Silva floored Stann after a thunderous first round, finishing him in the second with a nasty combination in the main event of UFC On FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann from Saitama, Japan.
"I knew what I had to risk when I signed on the dotted line," Stann said. "(Silva) is one of the fighters who inspired me to start this sport. I am proud to be a part of his career, and as much as this hurts right now, I am still proud I laid it all on the line."
Stann, a military veteran, received several chants of "USA" during the nine-plus minute bout. He was able to go toe-to-toe with Silva in the first round, as the two exchanged strike-for-strike, much to the excitement of the fans.
