Thiago Silva said he would silence former Strikeforce champion Rafael Cavalcante at UFC On FUEL TV: Nogueira Vs. Werdum Saturday night, and that's exactly what he did.Silva landed six consecutive shots that connected cleanly with the face of Cavalcante, the last of which knocked him out. The win was the first for the former contender since a 2009 victory over Keith Jardine.
To clear that up, Silva has won two matches since that time - over Brandon Vera and Stanislav Nedkov - but both have been changed to no-contests due to failed post-fight drug tests. This was his first, and Cavalcante's return, since a suspension for those tests.
"I had a great camp," Silva said. "I trained the best I can. I had the opportunity and I took it."
Silva threw his arms in the air to excite the Brazilian crowd just moments before attacking Cavalcante with a flurry of strikes. He attacked his opponent in the media before, but the two had a pleasant exchange after the bout.
