Yesterday, it was announced that Bellator had partnered with FOX Sports Latin America. The news could be a little shocking, considering the UFC airs on FOX. According to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, FOX reached out first.
“FOX reached out to us and started these conversations months ago about the potential of developing this deal,” said Rebney to MMA Junkie.
The deal has Bellator in 50 million homes in 19 Latin American countries, which includes Brazil. Taped programming will air in 2014 with live events starting by 2015.
The UFC is currently in the second year of their FOX contract and there’s been no complaint from Dana White. They have five years left on the contract.
Bellator is currently running Season 9 and can be seen on Spike TV.
