Lyoto Machida cut to middleweight in hopes of finding better luck after a string of defeats. “The Dragon” made a statement in his middleweight debut, knocking Mark Munoz out cold with a head kick. He wants Vitor Belfort next, but he’s currently scheduled to face Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 30.
“Vitor Belfort is the best option for me right now,” said Machida to MMA Fighting. “I want to fight him. It would be the best fight for me right now because he’s well ranked in the middleweight division. Even if Vitor loses to Dan Henderson, I’d want to fight him in our weight class.”
The Belfort-Henderson fight is at light heavyweight and headlines UFC Fight Night 30 on November 9. It’s from Brazil’s Goiania Arena.
Belfort has a pair of middleweight stoppages this year. Since returning to the UFC, he’s only been defeated by champions Jon Jones and Anderson Silva.
Machida is 20-4 and took Knockout of the Night against Munoz at UFC Fight Night 29. The finish came three minutes into the first round. Machida has no return information.
