Round 1: Araujo coming right after Alcantara, not showing any signs of Octagon-jitters. Big kick by Araujo, who clinches and is working for a takedown. He drops down for a double-leg, but Alcantara fends it off and reverses field. Araujo pulls guard, but Alcantara wants none of that and allows him back up. Nice takedown defense by Alcantara as Araujo comes in strong. Alcantara with a pair of knees to the body, as he is taking advantage of his length. Araujo attempts a takedown, but also just kind of falls to the mat at the same time. The result gets Alcantara to the ground, as Araujo sweeps and winds up on top. Alcantara reverses and lands a nice elbow from the top. Alcantara catches the neck of Araujo, but he can’t secure the submission. It looked to be in tight, but Alcantara lost control when he went to the canvas.
Round 2: Araujo gets the better of a quick strike exchange to start the round, forcing Alcantara to backpedal. Alcantara with a takedown after locking in both under hooks, and Araujo quickly works for an armlock. Now working the neck, Araujo is really showing everything he has in his book. Alcantara lands a right and scores a trip takedown, but Araujo is able to get on top after he gets too high. Araujo attempts a D’arce choke as we near the end of the round, but is unable to secure it.
Round 3: Alcantara with a nice knee to the body, but Araujo doesn’t seem concerned by it. Araujo drops down for a takedown, working the single-leg and getting it with a trip. Under four minutes, and he has plenty of time to work the offense. Alcantara has hold of a possible kimura, but is taking damage in an attempt to keep hold of it. Araujo gets free of the submission and goes back to work from half-guard. Just a very disappointing performance for Alcantara in this one, as Araujo remains looking for a submission throughout.
