Stefan Struve lost his win streak and standing in the UFC's heavyweight division, and will likely be sidelined for an extended period after a loss to Mark Hunt Saturday at UFC On FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann.MMAjunkie.com's John Morgan, on hand at the event in Japan, posted on Twitter that Struve told him he suffered a broken jaw after Hunt landed a flying left in the third round.
Struve (25-6) had won four consecutive fights prior to being stopped by Hunt. Of his six losses, five have come via knockout or TKO.
Morgan also reported that referee Herb Dean was not planning on stopping the fight despite the devastating punch until Struve said his jaw was broke.
Struve confirmed the injury himself on Twitter, posting minutes after the fight, "Thanks for the support everybody. I wanted Herb to take the tooth out of my cheek and continue but then it turned out my jaw was broken."
