Mega-long odds for winning record jackpot, now at $640 million
Lottery ticket lines swelled Friday as players drawn by a record $640 million Mega Millions jackpot cast aside concerns about odds to take a chance at becoming an overnight millionaire.
From Arizona, where a cafe worker reported selling $2,600 worth of tickets to one buyer, to Wisconsin, where a retired soldier doubled his regular weekly ticket spending to $55, people have been willing to test their luck for a shot at instantaneous wealth.

Obama imposes sanctions to squeeze Iran's oil exportation
President Obama agreed Friday to tough, new sanctions to slow Iran’s oil exportation by targeting the financial institutions that purchase the country’s oil.
The president said he made the decision after determining world markets have enough crude oil that such sanctions would not hurt U.S. allies.
“There is a sufficient supply of petroleum and petroleum products from countries other than Iran,” the president said. “I will closely monitor this situation to assure that the market can continue to accommodate a reduction in purchases of petroleum and petroleum products from Iran."
Obama got the authority to impose the sanctions through the National Defense Authorization Act.
The sanctions aim to further isolate Iran's central bank, which processes nearly all of the Islamic Republic's oil purchases, from the global economy.
U.S. officials hope ratcheting up economic pressure will push Iran to abandon its disputed nuclear program and convince Israel to give sanctions time to take hold before pursuing a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. The U.S. and allies suspect Iran of pursuing a nuclear bomb. Iran denies that.

Yet Another Proposed "Law" Allowing The Murder of Babies
In an attempt to close a loophole in state laws requiring parental notification or consent for minor abortions, the House Judiciary Committee approved a bill earlier this week which would make it a federal crime to transport a minor across state lines in order to circumvent parental involvement laws in the minor’s home state.
The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act would also require that parents be notified any time an abortion is performed on an out-of-state minor, regardless of the parental notification laws in the minor’s home state. Additionally, it guarantees a parent’s right to civil action against violators of the law, unless the pregnancy is the result of an incestuous act on the part of the parent.
Douglas Johnson, Legislative Director of the National Right to Life Committee ... added that the notification requirement would be dispensed with if the girl claims to be a victim of parental abuse. The abortion doctor, however, would be required to notify authorities of the situation.
He noted, however, that the effort to get members of Congress “on the record” about the issue was worthwhile. “We are very serious about seeing it enacted into law eventually,” he said.
