Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida feels as if there is a pecking order that needs to be followed in the promotion."The Dragon" will face Phil Davis next month at UFC 163: Aldo Vs. Korean Zombie, and most feel he would remain as a viable contender with a win.
Machida turned down a short-notice fight with UFC 205-pound champion Jon Jones last year, but went on to defeat Dan Henderson earlier this year. Instead of receiving a rematch with "Bones," that honor went to Alex Gustafsson.
Now, Daniel Cormier appears ready to enter the light heavyweight division, recently stating his desire to fight for the belt with a win over Roy Nelson. Machida isn't too happy with that notion.
"I don't believe he should cut in line," said Machida, during a conference call Thursday. "He should earn the title shot."
Machida (19-3) has won two straight since a submission loss to Jones in late 2011. He is 3-1 overall in his last four.
