Brendan Schaub vs. Lavar Johnson
Our prelim main event fight is up next, as heavyweights Brendan Schaub (8-3) and Lavar Johnson (17-6) finally square off. They were originally set to meet in December, but an injury forced Johnson out. The referee will be Jason Herzog.
Round 1: Johnson throws a huge right, but misses and Schaub scores a takedown. "The Hybrid" quickly into side control, but is only able to stick in half-guard as Johnson traps a leg. Schaub grabs a guillotine as Johnson tries to get up. Johnson firing off with huge rights to the face while being choked in an arm-triangle. Schaub unable to secure the submission, as he had to get away from the rights being thrown by Johnson off his back. That was an interesting situation, as Schaub had a side choke locked in, but Johnson was unleashing with rights. Back to their feet and Johnson is quick to attack, throwing a pair of big knees and getting a takedown with a trip. Schaub sweeps himself into half-guard and out of harms way.

Round 2: Schaub with a takedown and into half-guard, seeking another head-and-arm choke. Not much action, as Johnson is doing a good job of keeping Schaub from advancing, and the ref steps in to stand them back up. Johnson with a huge left, and Schaub goes for a takedown but is denied. Knee to the chin by Schaub, and he scores with a takedown. The Hybrid remains on top, but isn't doing much damage and is constantly being told by the ref to keep working.

Round 3: Big miss by Schaub, and Johnson hammers away but cannot avoid the takedown. Quickly, the crowd starts booing as the match goes to the ground. Johnson appears to be talking trash to Schaub, as the ref steps in and stands them up. Blood pouring from the face of Schaub, who quickly takes Johnson down. Schaub finally gets the mount position with just under three minutes to go. No damage done, and he goes back to half-guard. Johnson fighting off his back, but Schaub attempts a gator roll choke, and moves back to half guard. It wasn't the most exciting of fights, but Schaub did what he had to do to survive.

Mike Chiesa vs. Anton Kuivanen
A pair of lightweights square off next, as former Ultimate Fighter winner Mike Chiesa (8-0) takes on Anton Kuivanen (17-5). John McCarthy is the referee in charge.
Round 1: Chiesa declines a touch of gloves at the start. Pair of stiff jabs get through from Chiesa and connect. A lot of jockeying for position, as the two exchange knees inside the clinch. Chiesa was doing a good job of using his reach advantage, but that is negated when they are tied up. Kuivanen catches him against the fence and lands a combo. Kuivanen is throwing knockout strikes at each opportunity, throwing a flying knee but it gets caught. Chiesa goes for the takedown, and Kuivanen gains mount for a brief moment. Another wild scramble and the round comes to an end.

Round 2: Working for position, Chiesa takes the back and locks in a hook. They tumble to the ground, with Chiesa locking in a body triangle and working for a choke. The right arm is nearly secure under the chin with plenty of time left in the round. Chiesa switches to the left as the choke arm, and "The Maverick" is able to tighten the grip and secure the submission, improving to 9-0 in his career.

Dennis Bermudez vs. Matt Grice
Featherweights hit the Octagon, as Dennis Bermudez (9-3) takes on Matt Grice (15-4). The referee will be Herb Dean.
Round 1: Bermudez lands a stiff right and ties up Grice against the fence. Both men like to use their wrestling background to impose their will. Grice with a takedown, but Bermudez rolls over and lands in mount, firing off several uncontested rights to the face. An elbow gets through, as Bermudez continues to punish by tying up the right arm of Grice. Bermudez landed 40 significant strikes during the brief period of action. Bermudez working the neck, but unable to secure a choke and forced to release it. Exchange of rights and leg kicks by the two. Grice with a left hook-elbow combo that excites Joe Rogan at Octagon-side. Bermudez with a leg kick-jab that rocks Grice, closing the distance, dropping for a single-leg, but unable to get it. Grice makes him pay on the break, and floors Bermudez with a vicious left hook that drops him. Bermudez is back up, and fighting for survival with his wrestling skills. Grice finishes the round with another combo.

Round 2: Grice's striking is on point, as he floors Bermudez and lands another left hook again just seconds later. Grice shoots, and Bermudez doing a nice job of fighting it off as he switches to a double-leg attempt and scores. Grice quickly transitions to the back, but Bermudez is able to reverses things. Grice has a cut on his forehead, as Bermudez was able to catch him coming in earlier in the round. Flying right from Bermudez connects, but he's unable to score with the takedown attempt. Illegal knee by Bermudez, but no stoppage and the round comes to an end as Bermudez is unable to finish off a choke.

Short elbows are blooding up the face of Grice, as he has the left arm tied up. Bermudez with an uppercut and several jabs, and is now just throwing everything at a wobbling Grice. Grice is trying to fight back, and is somehow standing still. Another knee by Bermudez, but Grice catches a kick and has survived for now. The ref nearly stopped it, starting to step in but decided to back up. Great job of officiating by Herb Dean. Vicious uppercut by Bermudez lands, as he throws a spinning back kick but misses. Bermudez is just throwing everything he can, jabs, uppercuts, knees, but Grice is still standing - somehow. Both men are exhausted, as they nearly fall over. Less than 40 seconds left, and Grice connects with a left. They end the round throwing everything they can at each other. What an incredible fight between two men who left it all inside the Octagon.

Sam Stout vs. Caros Fodor
We open up the FX-televised prelims in the lightweight division, as Sam Stout (18-8-1) welcomes Caros Fodor (7-2) to the Octagon. Fodor is a Strikeforce import, who lost to Pat Healy in his last fight. The referee will be Jason Herzog.
Round 1: Stout tries to tie him up right away, but is unsuccessful. Fodor with a knee inside the clinch, as Stout ties him up against the fence. Another knee by Fodor, and one to the knee of Stout lands, as well. Right from Stout stuns Fodor, who shoots and scores with a takedown. Stout reverses and takes the back, tying him up against the fence again and unloading with a right. Stout trying to land an elbow, but it gets partially blocked. Stout with a takedown, but Fodor doing a nice job of not letting him pass. Stout gets mount position with 40 seconds left in the round. Fodor gives up his back with 30 seconds remaining, as Stout transitions into an armbar attempt, but Fodor survives the round.

Round 2: The two meet head-on, and clinch up against the fence again. A combined 79 strikes were landed in the first, with most being short, precise shots. Stout with a big right, and ties him up against the fence, landing a pair of body shots. Body-body-head kick combo thrown by Stout, a very nice series of strikes from the Canadian. Stout appears much more confident with his striking, a stark contrast from his last fight. Left hook to the body from Stout.

Round 3: Fodor coming directly at Stout again, lands a nice left-right combo. Fodor with a trip takedown, but Stout quickly back to his feet. Fodor scores a takedown and is able to control him this time, but not advance his position at all. Fodor needs to do something here as we head under two minutes, as I have Stout up through two rounds. Big left connects from Fodor, but he is denied the takedown. Sixty seconds left, and Fodor hits a solid right jab.

Kenny Robertson vs. Brock Jardine
Our third and final Facebook prelim welterweight contest pits Kenny Robertson (11-2) against Brock Jardine (9-2). John McCarthy will be the third man inside the Octagon.
Round 1: Robertson with a swift inside leg kick, scores a takedown, but Jardine is working a guillotine. Robertson nearly slipped out, but Jardine tightened the grip. Robertson continues to work and gets out, winding up in top position. Pass by Robertson and quickly to the back, working for his own choke hold. Big right lands by Robertson and he flattens him out and unloads to the head. A roll and Robertson goes for another rear-naked choke. Jardine fends it off, for now, as Robertson is still on his back. Robertson switches to a leg lock and Jardine is forced to tap quickly. Jardine left his left leg exposed, and Robertson grabbed it and pulled. Just a nasty submission from Robertson.

Jon Manley vs. Neil Magny
A pair of Ultimate Fighter alums square off at welterweight next, as Jon Manley (7-2) battles Neil Magny (7-2). Both advanced to the semifinals of the 16th season of TUF. The referee is Herb Dean.
Round 1: Manley with a flurry and he ties Magny up against the cage. Manley attempting a big double-leg, but Magny fends it off. Manley working hard for the takedown, and Magny fighting just as hard to defend it. Several rounds of booing by the crowd after that thrilling first bout, as this one has featured more jockeying against the fence than anything. Not worth booing in my book, but to each his own. Break from the clinch and Magny with a solid kick to the body. Manley working again for a takedown, but is denied for the seventh time this round. Solid combo lands by Magny to finish off the first five minutes.

Round 2: Nate Marquardt, in the corner of Magny, asks him if he is having fun and offers a big pat on the back between rounds. Manley finally gets the takedown, and is working in side control. Manley gets too high and Magny rolls him right over to his own back and is in side control himself, doing damage. Pair of knees to the body by Magny connect. Magny in a dominant position, landing several big blows to the head. Manley fights to his feet and is working for another takedown. Magny has Manley tied up and hits another knee to the body. Massive right, and a knee, followed by a takedown from Magny as we go under a minute.

Round 3: Magny looking to counter a fast-charging Manley, landing a solid right. Another right, but Manley connects with his own left. Magny with a takedown, and goes 12-to-6 with a big right. Dropping down and Manley goes to guard. Manley looking for an armbar, as he has it tied up with his legs. Just under three minutes left, so plenty of time for Manley to work this submission. Magny fights out of the armbar and moves to mount, landing a nice right and some ground-and-pound. Magny goes to take the back, but is unable to do anything with the position. The ref steps in and separates with 30 seconds to go. Stiff left lands from Magny to finish off the round. Magny completes his fourth takedown to secure the victory - likely.

We begin the Facebook prelims in the welterweight division, as Nah-Shon Burrell (8-2) takes on Yuri Villefort (6-1). All three Facebook prelim bouts go down at 170 pounds. The referee will be Jason Herzog. Burrell did miss weight by over five pounds, forfeiting a portion of his purse to Villefort.
Round 1: Boxer vs. wrestler bout here, as Burrell wants to stand and trade, which is how things get started. Villefort, though, catches a kick and trips him to the ground, moving quickly to the back. Villefort locks in the hooks and is working for a rear-naked choke a minute in. Burrell fights out of it, but Villefort remains locked in. Burrell gets out and up, and wants the fight standing. Villefort lands a nice leg kick, which Burrell answers with his own. Another nasty kick to the lead leg by Villefort. Burrell goes to the body and drops Villefort, pounces, but gets his leg caught. Burrell avoids the knee lock, but Villefort slides on top. Burrell switches things, stands up and starts walking away, but Villefort jumps to his feet and lands a big right. Burrell with an elbow, and we have a fight on our hands as the round comes to an end.

Round 2: Burrell knocks Villefort down again, and again, walks away. He wants him up and standing, but might want to stop just turning his back, as it allows the Brazilian a chance to attack. Villefort with his own power punches, but Burrell answers back. Big overhand right by Burrell connects. High kick connects by Villefort to the face, and he combos it up with a body shot. Villefort peppering the body, and the two exchange knee strikes. Burrell with a leg kick that nearly sweeps Villefort off his feet. Uppercut-jab combo from Burrell, as blood starts pouring from his opponents face.

Round 3: Villefort tucks and goes right for a takedown, which he gets with ease. Quickly to the back and going under the chin for a rear-naked choke, but Burrell gets out. Villefort slides under, Burrell defends and they are standing again. Villefort looking to lock up the heel, while Burrell bloodies his face with several lefts and rights. Villefort still has the leg, but his unable to defend the onslaught of punches and has to release the hold. Burrell worked for a guillotine, but couldn't get it. Burrell back to the guillotine, but had just one arm locked in and couldn't secure it. Kick to the face courtesy of Burrell, as Villefort isn't hitting him with anything of meaning. Shoot attempt, work for a single-leg but unable to get it. Burrell landed over 100 significant strikes, including 96 head ones, while Villefort scored four takedowns.
