Jake Shields vs. Tyron Woodley
Round 1: Shields using his kicks to keep Woodley at bay. Woodley remaining very patient, and takes Shields off his feet with a swift kick. Shields catches a kick attempt, brings Woodley down, and he pops back up. Excellent wrestling background will help Woodley in this one vs. a world-class jiu-jitsu fighter in Shields. Trip takedown attempt by Shields denied. Exchange of kicks and Woodley's does more damage, but Shields shoots for a takedown. Shields grinding away, making Woodley carry his weight and doing some damage with short punches.
Round 2: Huge overhand right lands by Woodley and stuns Shields for a brief moment. Shields, though, goes back to the clinch work against the fence, his most effective weapon so far. Woodley has stuffed all 10 takedown attempts by Shields to date with two-plus minutes left in this round. Shields working for a potential guillotine. Superman punch by Woodley gets countered with a right.
Round 3: Woodley told to turn it loose, and he does just that, firing off a pair of big rights. He appears to have a little more pep in his step this round, fighting off another takedown attempt, but gets himself tied up and can't use his hands. Woodley's corner tells him to go and he lands a spinning back fist. Shields, though, remains upright and ties Woodley up. Just over a minute left in this one. Woodley stuffs another takedown and lands a right hammerfist to Shields, but has he done enough? We will see.
Jake Shields def. Tyron Woodley via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28)
