Jeff Gordon will have a new look for 14 races in 2013 as longtime sponsor DuPont has sold its paint business to The Carlyle Group, which will change the name of the products to Axalta Coating Systems.
The Axalta name and logo, which is still being developed, will begin appearing on the car by the end of June. DuPont had been a sponsor of Gordon’s since he began racing in Cup full time in 1992.
"We may have a new name on the No. 24 Chevrolet SS in 2013, but it's the same core group that I've enjoyed working with for more than 20 years," Gordon said. "We've had success together on and off the track.
"We plan to carry that success into our third decade."
Two years ago, DuPont cut back from nearly a full season of sponsorship to 14 races and the AARP Foundation, through its Drive To End Hunger campaign, picked up the bulk of the season.
"People and relationships are important to our organization," said Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick. "These are the same folks who have spent more than two decades executing one of the most successful sponsorship programs in sports.
“They understand the value of NASCAR, and we've already had positive conversations about the future. It's been an incredible partnership that we look forward to building on even more."
Gordon has 87 career victories and has won four Cup championships.
