Tiffany Jacobs and Alvina Leiba, a pair of 19-year-old women from Deltona, Fla., were arrested May 22 after their half-baked plot to rob a Pizza Hut delivery man for $40 worth of food failed.
Leiba and Jacobs told police that they"planned on scaring the pizza delivery man into leaving prior to them paying" because they did not have enough money to cover their order
The women stole no money from the delivery man, 19-year-old Brian Healy, but took "two large pizzas, some chicken wings and an apple pie," according to WKMG-TV.
The Pizza Hut employee came to Leiba's house around midnight with the food. Leiba answered the door and asked him to come inside while she looked for cash. That's when 5’ 1”, 200-pound Jacobs, dressed in all-black clothing and a mask -- a disguise that the Smoking Gun described as a "ninja getup" -- sprung from a hiding spot and swung a wooden baseball bat at Healy.
According to a police affidavit obtained by the Smoking Gun, Healy claims to have been struck in the arm and the head. Healy managed to take the bat from Jacobs, and threw it on the lawn as the woman fled the scene.
In the police report, Healy stated that he then asked Leiba if she intended to pay for the food. Leiba told Healy that she was going to call the police, so Healy left and dialed 911.
Leiba and Jacobs hid in the woods near Leiba's house and ate the food. They turned themselves in on Friday after hearing that police were looking for them in connection with the robbery and assault, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Oddly, this was not the first time that Jacobs and Leiba had attempted to rob a pizza delivery man -- nor was it the first time they tried to rob Healy.
According to the police report, Healy claimed that he had been involved in a "suspicious incident" at the same house several months prior, when a "large framed individual" answered the door and a smaller woman attempted to scare him. Healy said that he was not assaulted and was paid for the food, so he did not call police.
While in holding cells, the women "laughed profusely about the situation," according to the police affidavit. According to a deputy, Leiba said that she would refuse to pay any fines associated with the incident and instead flee to Trinidad. She also commented that she was so hungry that she would "rob a McDonald's with Jacobs when they got out of jail," police investigators said.
"Jacobs [was] charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, [and] is being held in the Volusia County jail in lieu of $3000 bail," according to the Smoking Gun. "Leiba, facing an armed robbery count, bailed out of custody Saturday after posting $1500."
