The family that fights crime together, stays together.
A 72-year-old woman fought off a burglar with the help of her son in their Louisiana home on Wednesday morning, according to the Times-Picayune.
The 48-year-old son entered his Metairie garage at about 6:30 a.m. and found an intruder -- identified as 30-year-old Troy Derosa of Covington -- wearing a mask and carrying a crowbar, WWLTV reports.
The two men began fighting when the no-nonsense mama called the sheriff's office and then got involved in the scuffle.
"The mother joined in the fight and actually got the best of the suspect," Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, told the Times-Picayune.
“According to the medical personnel at University Hospital, the suspect actually sustained more injuries than both the victim and his 72-year-old mother," Fortunato said to WWLTV.
By the time the authorities arrived, both men were "bleeding profusely," the Times-Picayune reports, and the 72-year-old woman had some minor cuts. Derosa was taken to a hospital and then to a jail cell.
Derosa has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and simple battery, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. His bond is set at $750,500.
The alleged burglar has quite the rap sheet, FOX 8 New Orleans reports.Derosa was charged with first-degree murder for the 2000 shooting death of a horse trainer and in 2003, he was pinched for aggravated burglary. In both cases the charges were dismissed due to a lack of credible evidence.
Also in 2003, Derosa was charged with three counts of murder in another Metairie home invasion. All three victims -- ages 17, 21 and 25, respectively -- were shot execution-style. Derosa was acquitted on all charges.
The only conviction Derosa has in Jefferson Parish was for burglary in 1999, according to FOX 8. He was sentenced to two years in jail on that charge.
