Anthony Pettis didn’t use any flash kicks or punches this time.
Instead, he finished UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson with a nasty armbar, forcing a tap late in the first round at UFC 164 Saturday night.
And, as promised, “Showtime” proceeded to do just as he said, calling out another fellow champion.
“I’m gonna make (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva’s job easier,” Pettis said. “Jose Aldo, my title vs. your title.”
Pettis was originally scheduled to face Aldo earlier this month, but a knee injury forced him out. He replaced TJ Grant in the Henderson match when Grant went down.
Aldo defeated Chan Sung Jung in his most recent title defense.
For Pettis, it was a perfect homecoming, as he hails from Milwaukee and stated that several times he attended events inside the Bradley Center.
“Milwaukee, I love you all,” he screamed. “Milwaukee baby…the UFC champ.”
The submission came with just seconds left in the opening round, as Pettis was able to secure the lock and twist. He stated he “felt a pop and heard tap, tap, tap.”
