However, as the promotion has come to stack the card with their home-grown champions, it has dawned on me that they have put together a solid lineup.

If you take Jackson-Ortiz for what it is, which is the chance to see two former world champions compete, it is just an added bonus to a night featuring Michael Chandler, Eddie Alvarez and Pat Curran.

There aren’t many UFC cards that put three top-ranked fighters in action like this November Bellator card is doing, so they have that going for them.

If you’ve never given Bellator a chance, this might be the best time. You’ll avoid any squash tournament bouts they like to put together, or boring heavyweight tilts they try and make you watch on Spike TV each week.

Instead, we get the rematch most have been pushing for in Chandler-Alvarez. Back when Chandler ended the run of Alvarez atop the lightweight division, most viewed the bout as the “Fight of the Year.” However, a match featuring Dan Henderson and Shogun Rua scored most of those honors that year.

Chandler has ran through the competition since, while Alvarez has spent the bulk of his time on the sidelines negotiating a new deal with the promotion.

In Curran, we get to see an incredibly talented featherweight defend his title vs. Daniel Straus. Curran will be the heavy favorite, but has won five straight and could pose problems for him.

The main card also features a rematch between former Strikeforce champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Emanuel Newton for the interim 205-pound title, along with a heavyweight battle between Cheick Kongo and Vinicius Spartan.

But, all roads lead back to Jackson and Ortiz.

They bring the name-power, star-power and resumes to the cage, and how they help promote the event over these next few days will go a long way in determining when the second Bellator PPV airs.

So yes, count me among those that will throw some money down and purchase this event next week. Sucker or not, I’ve been bought.
