Already once this year fans have witnessed the end of a lengthy UFC title reign. That was in the form of Anderson Silva and there could be another case before the month is up. Carlos Condit thinks if Johny Hendricks can control the ground, a new welterweight champ is in the works.
“I think it’s going to come down to who can take who down or who can defend the other guy’s takedowns,” said Condit to MMA Sentinel. “We might just get to see Georges [St-Pierre] out of the comfort zone that he’s enjoyed. He’s been able to pretty much at will, put a guy on his back, whereas Hendricks has that power, that left hand that could put Georges to sleep. I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
Condit is familiar with St-Pierre, having dropped a title unification bout in the process. It was St-Pierre’s return to action following an ACL injury. He now holds a record eight welterweight title defenses.
Hendricks enters off a decision win of Condit and is known for finishing fights with one punch. Three of his recent fights haven’t escaped the opening round.
They headline UFC 167 on November 16. It’s from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
We will have Live Coverage Starting at 5:30 CT Saturday (10/19) for UFC 166: Dos Santos Vs. Velasquez 3!
