Chris Weidman has a chance to make MMA history by dethroning middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva. The fight almost never materialized, as Weidman nearly inked a deal with Bellator.The night before Weidman was to sign the contract with Bellator, someone pointed out that the wording was off. If Weidman signed, the promotion had the chance to keep him longer than the original two years stated.
"I felt like I was betrayed by them," said Weidman to the New York Post. "They never told me that. It was a little sneaky. I was so upset. I was so let down. I was excited to go to Bellator. Everything happens for a reason. Thank God I took my time and didn't just rush into it."
To understand the problem with Bellator contracts, just ask their former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, who has been in court with them for months.
Weidman looks to remain undefeated and hand Silva his first UFC loss at UFC 162. They headline the July 6 card from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
