Just a few days ago it was reported by Newsday that UFC 169, otherwise dubbed as the annual Super Bowl weekend show, would feature a main event title fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira for Jones' light heavyweight belt. The UFC even made it "official" on their own website. UFC president Dana White has squashed the story, saying that the fight was never finalized for February 1st:
Dana on a media call: "Jones-Teixeira is not happening on Super Bowl, that was never a done deal. It's later in the year."
White later said that Jones/Teixeira would likely be scheduled for March. As it stands, the only fight official for UFC 169, which takes place in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center, is a heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem.
The UFC has six title fights coming up over the final 3 months of the year in the following weight classes: Flyweight, women's bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, and heavyweight. That leaves just men's bantamweight and featherweight without scheduled title bouts, so those (plus the October heavyweight clash between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos) would be the likely candidates to headline UFC 169.
