Junior dos Santos wanted to put together an impressive list of victims on his way to becoming the greatest UFC heavyweight champion of all-time.
However, “Cigano” was unable to get past Cain Velasquez when the two met recently, falling via decision. He will get the chance to avenge the defeat this weekend at UFC 166 – and become the champion once again.
“It (the loss) affected me a lot,” said dos Santos, during a recent interview on UFC Tonight. “It was not good. Nobody likes to lose. I learned a lot.
“I’m smarter now and I have a lot more experience and I’m going to use that.”
Dos Santos won the first meeting between the two with a first round stoppage victory. He was bruised and battered in the second, falling via decision.
In a win over Mark Hunt to secure his rematch, the Brazilian showed several new offensive moves, including a spinning wheel kick. He has been adding more to his arsenal since the bout.
“Yeah, expect something different this time,” he said. “I never felt comfortable enough to use those against wrestlers. You have to use all your weapons to win a fight, and I’m going to do that.”
