Evans beat Sonnen and earned the first round TKO victory, tying UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell with his 13th win inside the division.
“Me and Chael are close,” he added. “I like him a lot as a person. When you have to land those shots on somebody (you like), it’s hard to do.
“But that is the sport we play. We’re working together in three weeks; it’s all good.”
Evans (19-3-1) has now won two straight and said “I want to fight for a chance to get the title back,” Evans said. “I am willing to work to get there. I’m ready.”
