Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin announced his retirement Saturday night prior to the start of the UFC 160: Velasquez Vs. Bigfoot 2 press conference.Griffin, who was forced to the sidelines late in 2012 with a knee injury, was also the winner of The Ultimate Fighter season one.
UFC president Dana White, who made the announced, confirmed that Griffin will continue to work with the promotion, much like recently retired stars Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes.
"When Dana says you should retire, you should retire," Griffin said. "Otherwise, you'll blow your knee out."
Griffin has released a pair of books and had a series of epic fights with Tito Ortiz. He is 33 years old.
White later announced that both Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, who met in the final of the first TUF tournament, will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in July during the fan expo.
