Georges St-Pierre’s head trainer Firas Zahabi is downplaying earlier remarks when he claimed the UFC welterweight champion was thinking about retiring. Now, he says St-Pierre is just getting back his groove after a torn ACL put him on the shelves for 18 months.
“GSP has always that said if he loses the drive to really go through with a great training camp and push himself, then he will retire,” said Zahabi on The MMA Hour. “GSP’s camp has been his best in years, last two not so great, because he was so rusty because of the knee injury.”
Since returning from the injury, St-Pierre has got decisions over Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz. He will look to continue his record title reign against Johny Hendricks
Hendricks is 15-1 and has knocked out over half of his opponents. He enters off a decision win from Condit.
The title headlines UFC 167 on November 16 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
