UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre used his wrestling and quick jab to riddle Nick Diaz Saturday night, defeating the challenger in the main event of UFC 158: St-Pierre Vs. Diaz from Montreal. After a strong opening two rounds, GSP seemed to fade a little against Diaz, as the former Strikeforce champion successfully denied many takedown attempts.
The two have had plenty to say towards one another in the lead-up to the fight, but St-Pierre offered his respect to Diaz after the 25-minute war.
"I want to say something to Nick: he is a good guy, please give him a hands up," GSP said. "I never took (the trash talk) personally. Nick is a veteran. I am a big fan of Nick Diaz, he is a favorite of mine to watch and I knew he would make a good fight."
St-Pierre earned his 11th straight victory, improving to 24-2 in his career. GSP out-landed Diaz 210-80 overall and 105-41 in significant strikes. He was also successful on nine takedown attempts.
