It's been a longtime coming, but Josh Barnett's UFC return is almost here. The last time Barnett fought for the UFC was over a decade ago, when he was their heavyweight champion. A failed drug test for steroids saw him get stripped of the belt and released."I want to come back and recapture that gold belt again for sure," said Barnett to the Los Angeles Times. "I won it back in 2002 and I want to show why I was champ then and why I'll still be champ now. Also, my own personal motivation is I want to beat up everybody, everywhere, all the time."
Barnett would spend the next 10 years competing across the planet. Some of the promotions he fought for include DREAM, Affliction and Strikeforce. At 32-6, Barnett last took a quick round one submission on the final Strikeforce card in January.
He will be meeting another former champion in Frank Mir. For the first time, Mir is looking at a possible three fight losing streak. He suffered back-to-back losses to Junior dos Santos and Daniel Cormier.
They're the co-main event of UFC 164 on August 31. It's from the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI.
