UFC president Dana White said earlier in the week that the winner of Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson at UFC 157: Rousey Vs. Carmouche would become the No. 1 contender to the UFC light heavyweight title. And, despite the less-than-thrilling performance put on by Machida, "The Dragon" was confirmed by White as the top contender to the title.
Jon Jones, who currently wears the belt, will face Chael Sonnen in April at UFC 159: Jones Vs. Sonnen. Alexander Gustafsson, who many feel is the rightful No. 1 contender, is set to face Gegard Mousasi that same month.
Machida is a former champion and fought Jones in 2011, falling by submission. He was offered a title shot last year, but declined due to not having enough time to prepare.
