McDonald has done so since starting out on his MMA journey just a few short years ago.
However, he’ll put that mutual respect aside in December when he faces Faber at UFC on FOX 9.
“I’ve had a lot of time to break that barrier between fan and competition,” he said, during a recent press conference. “When I was 16, seeing all my competition fighting, I was so young in the sport. I’ve had a lot of time to break that barrier from not just being a fan anymore.
“Now, they are my opponents.”
The two have worked out together, but McDonald said you can “expect fireworks” when they get inside the Octagon.
As for training to face Faber, the former No. 1 contender reported that he plans to train with “stronger guys….make sure my wrestling defense is good.”
“I’m just trying to be an all-around martial artist,” he added.
