It’s been two weeks since UFC Fight Night 26, where Travis Browne got a first round stoppage in the co-main event and someone doesn’t agree with the referee’s job. Fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson just caught a tape of the fight and thought Alistair Overeem did enough work early on to be awarded the win.
“I just saw the Overeem-Browne fight last night,” said Nelson to Bloody Elbow. “I think that could have been stopped when he was hitting Travis. I don’t want to say it got stopped early, but if they’re going to let Travis take a good beating, then let Overeem take a good beating.”
“Big Country” isn’t interested in any of those fighters and has two names on his radar in Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez. First up will be Cormier at UFC 166.
Nelson signed a new UFC contract as he finished his previous one with a loss to Stipe Miocic. Prior to that defeat, Nelson had won three consecutive fights in the opening round.
Cormier is undefeated and joined the UFC as the final Strikeforce grand prix champion. He’s 12-0 with a win over Frank Mir in his UFC debut.
UFC 166 is October 19 from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.
