
Former UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch was one of several fighters released by the UFC, according to a report by MMAFighting.com. The site sourced UFC president Dana White as confirming the releases.Fitch (24-5-1) posted a 14-3-1 record while competing for the UFC. He had a 16-fight win streak at one point in his career, and earned a title fight vs. Georges St-Pierre.
Veteran Vladimir Matyushenko was also released, along with Terry Etim, Ulysses Gomez, Josh Grispi, Che Mills, Jorge Santiago, Paul Sass, Motonobu Tezuka, Jay Hieron, C.J. Keith, Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Mike Stumpf, Simon Thoresen and Jacob Volkmann. Volkmann had previously posted his release via Twitter.
Fitch still remains in the Top-10 in the UFC's welterweight rankings. All of the fighters cut were defeated in their most recent Octagon appearances.
