Urijah Faber has heard all the talk of a potential release with a loss Saturday night. So, the former WEC champion decided to take matters into his own hands, submitting Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157: Rousey Vs. Carmouche.Faber (27-6) lost in a bout for the interim UFC bantamweight title to Renan Barao last year. He suffered a rib injury and was forced to spent extra time on the sidelines.
With the recent wave of releases by the UFC, many questioned Faber's career going forward if he was unable to solve Menjivar. After failing to secure a finish on the ground, "The California Kid" jumped on the back, locked in a figure-four with his legs and choked Menjivar out.
"I am so happy to get a win here for you guys. California, I love you, thank you," Faber said. "Ivan's a crafty veteran, a pioneer of this sport."
Faber's two most recent losses have come in title matches, as Barao and Dominick Cruz each scored decision victories. He stated that he's "made some adjustments (in his game)," and is "going to make more."
